a bit of a do …

… it would be great to see you at my upcoming solo exhibition ‘Coastlines’, which will be showing at Greyfriars Art Space, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, from 27 September to 11 October 2014.

The theme is inspired by my residency at Brison’s Veor, Cape Cornwall earlier this year and contrasts that wild, rugged coast with the very different North Norfolk coastline close to where I live, and where, as regular followers of this blog will know, I often walk, sketch and paint along the saltmarshes and beaches.

On the opening Saturday (29thSeptember) I’ll be having a ‘bit of a do’ between 12 noon and 4pm to launch the exhibition, with wine and nibbles, you’d be very welcome!

veils of colour…

My first oil painting in nearly forty years! I love the soft veils of colour possible with oils. I normally work fast, hence my usual use of acrylics, but I so enjoyed this!

Regular visitors to this blog will know I’ve been working in acrylics, with and without other media, for a number of years, so it will be interesting to see which way I eventually go now.

After painting this I enjoyed bashing acrylic onto another canvas, wiping off etc. Acrylic seems to appeal to the impatient exuberant side of me, whereas using oils I found calming, almost meditative. (unfortunately the light wasn’t great, hence the not very sharp photos).

welcome to my studio, all ready for the first day of Norfolk Open Studios 2014 tomorrow. This is the first time I’ve opened up this new-ish studio of mine and I’m looking forward to sharing it with friends and visitors.

Hope they can get up the steep stairs!

I’m open for this long Bank holiday weekend and then the weekend of 7 and 8 June (the last day of Open Studios). There aren’t many others open close by, so I’m hoping that the many visitors to the popular Castle Acre Open Studio Trail 8 miles to the south, will venture my way too.

Will let you know how it goes.

Good luck to all other artists holding their own open studios at this time.
