Art Fair East, Norwich, 4 to 7 June

I’m excited to be taking part in this new Art Fair for the East of England. Along with Heather Tamplin, Helen Herbert, Alain Mansfield and Gavin Morris we will be sharing a large stand as The Collective, Norfolk.

A wide variety of artists, groups and galleries are lined up, so it looks like it’s going to be a special event. It’s my first Art Fair too, so wish me luck.

Norwich is a beautiful small ancient city and the fair is being held in its medieval heart, in the spectacular setting of St Andrew’s Hall, another reason to visit!

Private View is on Thursday 4th June 6-8.30pm

A warm Thursday evening last week, found me in London at The Mall Galleries for the Private View of the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, in which I was a finalist. It was a busy night, with many exhibiting artists, guests and the sponsors Smith & Williamson. The standard and variety of finalists’ work was very impressive, ranging from photo-realism to semi-abstract and the full spectrum of watercolour media including pure watercolour, ink, acrylic and gouache.

We met and chatted with some interesting people, including cityscape artist Janet Kenyon and her partner Bob, who had travelled all the way down from Carlisle. Janet’s stunning city skylines (see below) have won many awards, including the RWS/Sunday Times 2009 Smith & Williamson Cityscape prize.

Among many other entries, ‘Cloud Study, Loughborough’ (below) by graduate Phlip Clarke also caught my attention, with its intensity and depth and urban foreground.

The exhibition now travels to the Guildford House Gallery, 155 High St, Guildford GU1 3AJ where it will be on view from 14 November to 3 December. After which it will be exhibited in Smith & Williamson’s offices up and down the country.

… it would be great to see you at my upcoming solo exhibition ‘Coastlines’, which will be showing at Greyfriars Art Space, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, from 27 September to 11 October 2014.

The theme is inspired by my residency at Brison’s Veor, Cape Cornwall earlier this year and contrasts that wild, rugged coast with the very different North Norfolk coastline close to where I live, and where, as regular followers of this blog will know, I often walk, sketch and paint along the saltmarshes and beaches.

On the opening Saturday (29thSeptember) I’ll be having a ‘bit of a do’ between 12 noon and 4pm to launch the exhibition, with wine and nibbles, you’d be very welcome!
